Keep all the features of a proven open-source mail platform and its familiar three-column layout, but give it a modern design that makes everyday communication fast and efficient.
A feature mind map and competitive analysis, a user persona and user stories, then mobile-first wireframes, low-fi prototypes in Adobe XD and high-fidelity mockups using the suite’s design system, shared with developers through Zeplin.
A clean, familiar email client for organizations, designed and iterated over about a year and released as apps for multiple platforms. The founders were very happy with the result.
The goal was an email app with everything people expect, from folders and filters to signatures and keyboard shortcuts, built on an open-source mail platform but with a much cleaner, Material-based design.
I was the only designer on the 11-person team, so I covered the whole UX process, from mind maps and personas to final mockups and design reviews.
